**Washington D.C.** – Following an Iranian missile attack on the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, a US-run facility, President Donald Trump has indicated a desire to avoid further escalation. In a series of posts on X, Trump expressed hope that Iran had “gotten it all out of their ‘system'” and that future relations could focus on “Peace and Harmony in the Region.” He also suggested he would encourage Israel to reciprocate.
The Iranian strike, launched in response to a US attack over the weekend on Iranian nuclear facilities, involved 14 missiles, of which Trump claimed 13 were intercepted. He also thanked Iran for providing early warning of the attack, allowing for preventative measures to be taken.
“I want to thank Iran for giving us early notice, which made it possible for no lives to be lost, and nobody to be injured,” Trump stated.
The attack on Al Udeid, the largest US military base in the Middle East, was acknowledged by Qatar, which condemned the strike as a violation of its sovereignty and airspace. Qatar stated it had received advance warning from Iran and that its air defense system intercepted the missiles, resulting in no casualties.
The Iranian government, which consulted with Russian President Vladimir Putin before the strike, framed the action as retaliation for the US attack on its nuclear sites. The Secretariat of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council stated the number of missiles used in the operation mirrored the number of bombs used by the US in its attack.
Despite earlier threats of “serious, unpredictable consequences” from Iran, President Trump’s response suggests a desire to de-escalate the conflict, echoing his call for “PEACE” made after the initial US strike on Iranian nuclear facilities.
