**BANGALORE, June 22, 2025** – Karnataka’s villages are set to receive a significant boost as the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department ramps up construction of new Gram Panchayat (GP) and Anganwadi buildings across the state. Minister Seethakka is spearheading the effort, aimed at modernizing rural infrastructure.
The department has set an ambitious target of constructing two GP buildings and two Anganwadi centers in each mandal, culminating in a total of 1,144 GP buildings and 1,148 Anganwadi buildings by March 2026. So far, sites have been identified for 813 Anganwadi buildings and 549 GP buildings, indicating substantial progress.
“The previous BRS government neglected these crucial infrastructure projects,” stated Ms. Seethakka. “We are committed to rectifying this and providing our villages with the facilities they deserve. Our department has made significant strides in site identification and is confident in meeting our deadlines.”
Each GP building will be constructed at a cost of ₹20 lakh through the NREGS (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme), while Anganwadi buildings will be built for ₹12 lakh, funded by NREGS, the 15th Finance Commission, and the Women and Child Welfare Department. The Panchayat Raj Engineering Department is developing unique designs for both types of buildings to enhance their functionality and aesthetic appeal.
The construction project is expected to breathe new life into the villages of Karnataka, providing essential community spaces and improved services for residents. Ms. Seethakka expressed optimism that the villages would gain a new look and improved services by next March.
