Sun Jun 22 15:50:00 UTC 2025: **Schmidt Dominates, Falls Short of No-Hitter as Yankees Beat Orioles**

**NEW YORK** – Clarke Schmidt delivered a masterful performance for the New York Yankees Saturday, pitching seven hitless innings against the Baltimore Orioles. However, despite his dominance, manager Aaron Boone pulled Schmidt after 103 pitches, a career high, preventing him from chasing history. The Yankees went on to win 9-0, but the no-hit bid was broken up in the eighth inning when Gary Sánchez singled off reliever JT Brubaker.

Schmidt acknowledged his disappointment but understood Boone’s decision, stating, “You’re going to power through pitch limits, or within reason. Today was not that day for Clarke.” Boone emphasized the importance of managing Schmidt’s workload.

Schmidt navigated a rocky first inning, throwing 27 pitches and issuing two walks, but settled in, showcasing his entire arsenal. Despite a brief scare in the fourth after hitting a batter, he cruised through the middle innings.

Brubaker, who ultimately closed out the game with a one-hitter, lauded Schmidt’s performance. “He absolutely dominated with every single pitch he had in the arsenal and went right after their hitters.”

Sánchez’s single in the eighth, a clean hit to left field, drew light boos from some fans in the crowd of 46,142.

Schmidt’s impressive outing extended his scoreless streak to 25 1/3 innings, the third-longest by a Yankees pitcher since 1961. The Yankees have thrown 13 no-hitters in their history, the most recent a perfect game by Domingo Germán in June 2023. The Orioles have been no-hit 15 times, last in 2015.
