Mon May 12 15:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Heatwave Sweeps Across North India, Delhi NCR Braces for Scorching Temperatures

**New Delhi, May 13** – A severe heatwave is gripping swathes of North India, with temperatures soaring in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi-NCR. While Delhi-NCR has experienced relatively milder weather recently, thanks to occasional rain and strong winds, the heat is now intensifying. The region is expected to see temperatures reach 39°C today, climbing to 40°C tomorrow.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that Delhi-NCR will experience even hotter conditions today, with partly cloudy skies and occasional winds. No rainfall is expected until May 16th, when light showers are possible. Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Haryana are also bracing for a significant rise in temperatures.

Uttar Pradesh is already experiencing a brutal heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 42°C in several districts. The IMD warns that the maximum temperature could reach nearly 44°C in the next two days. Thirteen districts will experience excessively hot nights as well.

Bihar, while experiencing intense heat, received some respite yesterday evening with rainfall in several districts. However, the IMD has issued a heavy rainfall alert for seven districts today, including Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnia, Katihar, Kishanganj, Araria, and Supaul, with potential for thunderstorms and high winds. The remaining districts can expect hot and humid conditions.

Uttarakhand is expected to experience more pleasant weather, with rain predicted for Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts today, and light showers in other areas.
