**NEW YORK –** Peacock has offered a first glimpse into its upcoming mockumentary series, “The Paper,” a spiritual successor to the beloved sitcom “The Office.” The streaming service revealed the news at the NBCUniversal upfront presentation to advertisers on Monday, showcasing a first-look image and a trailer.
The show, premiering this September (exact date TBA), follows the documentary crew from “The Office” as they search for a new subject, ultimately settling on a struggling Midwestern newspaper, the Toledo Truth-Teller. Oscar Nuñez reprises his role from “The Office” as an accountant at the paper, clearly less than thrilled to see the familiar camera crew. He’s joined by a star-studded cast including Domhnall Gleeson as an idealistic new employee and Sabrina Impacciatore as the managing editor. Other cast members include Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key.
“The Paper” is co-created by Greg Daniels (“The Office”) and Michael Koman, with executive producers including “The Office” creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. The announcement comes alongside several other Peacock scripted series revealed during the upfront, including a “Ted” animated series, a “Burbs” reboot, and new shows starring Amy Poehler and Sarah Snook.
