Mon May 12 23:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Texas Grid Expected to Withstand Heat Wave, Despite High Demand

**HOUSTON, TX** – Texas energy experts are confident the state’s power grid will handle the expected surge in electricity demand this week, as temperatures soar into the mid-to-upper 90s. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) projects that available capacity will surpass demand daily, even with the highest temperatures of the year so far.

According to Doug Lewin, host of the Energy Capital Podcast, the increased solar energy storage currently online is a significant factor in maintaining grid stability. ERCOT forecasts a peak demand of roughly 84,000 megawatts, exceeding last May’s peak of 77,000 megawatts, but still well below the extreme levels seen during peak summer months.

While temperatures will be unusually high for May, they are not expected to reach the 110-degree mark that puts significant stress on grid infrastructure, Lewin explained. Despite the positive outlook, consumers are still advised to conserve energy where possible and explore potential energy-reduction incentives offered by their providers.

Experts also recommend performing routine maintenance on air conditioning units, including filter replacement, vent clearance, and thermostat checks, to maximize efficiency during the hot weather.
