**Hyderabad, May 13, 2025** – Telangana continues to outperform the national average in maternal health, despite a recent marginal increase in its Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR). According to the Registrar General of India’s latest report (2019-21), Telangana’s MMR stands at 45 deaths per 100,000 live births, up slightly from 43 in the previous report (2018-20). This compares favorably to the national average, which has decreased from 97 to 93 over the same period.

The report highlights significant regional disparities, with southern states consistently exhibiting lower MMRs. Kerala boasts the lowest rate (20), followed by Maharashtra (38), Telangana, Andhra Pradesh (46), Tamil Nadu (49), and Karnataka (63). Conversely, states such as Madhya Pradesh (175), Assam (167), and Uttar Pradesh (151) recorded drastically higher rates.
