Tue May 13 00:32:59 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Braces for Heavy Rainfall, Heatwave
**CHENNAI, Tamil Nadu – May 13, 2025** – Tamil Nadu is expected to experience a dramatic shift in weather conditions this week, with heavy rainfall predicted for several districts while other areas face a searing heatwave. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, forecasts a significant increase in rainfall starting Wednesday, May 14, particularly in districts along the Western Ghats and interior regions. This heavy rainfall is expected to last for three days.
In contrast, parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are expected to experience temperatures two to three degrees Celsius above average until Wednesday, with high humidity adding to the discomfort. Madurai recorded the state’s highest temperature on Monday, reaching 41 degrees Celsius, while Erode and Karur Paramathi also exceeded 40 degrees Celsius.
The RMC anticipates a drop in temperatures from May 14 onward, coinciding with the predicted increase in rainfall. The anticipated arrival of the Southwest monsoon over Kerala around May 27 is expected to further influence rainfall across the state.
According to RMC Head B. Amudha, the advancement of cloud formations over the south Arabian Sea, Maldives, Comorin area, and the Bay of Bengal is likely to trigger the heavy rainfall. The Nilgiris and ghat areas of several districts, including Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Erode, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Salem, and Tiruvannamalai, are expected to be hardest hit on May 14. Scattered rainfall is predicted across the state until May 18, with some areas experiencing thunderstorms and gusty winds up to 40-50 kmph. The RMC is closely monitoring cloud formations over both the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal for indications of the Southwest monsoon’s progress.
