Mon May 12 19:58:24 UTC 2025: ## India Intercepts Drones After Cross-Border Hostilities

**JAMMU/CHANDIGARH, May 13, 2025** – India’s armed forces intercepted multiple suspected drones along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab on Monday night, following days of intense cross-border hostilities. The drone activity occurred hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first national address since Operation Sindoor and a meeting between Indian and Pakistani Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs).

In Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district, the army engaged suspected drones near the IB, leading to precautionary blackouts in several areas, including the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. Similar drone activity was reported in Punjab’s Jalandhar district, where authorities confirmed that one drone was neutralized. Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal urged residents to remain calm and avoid approaching any debris. Precautionary blackouts were also implemented in parts of Amritsar and Hoshiarpur districts in Punjab, resulting in the diversion of an IndiGo flight to Delhi.

The recent escalation began in northern Kashmir before spreading south, impacting five border districts. These events further strained the 2021 ceasefire agreement, already weakened by repeated violations. On May 10th, India and Pakistan reached an agreement to cease all firing and military actions, but the drone incidents suggest continued tensions. The situation is currently reported as calm and under control, but the military remains on high alert.
