**Jaipur, Rajasthan –** The Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for dust storms and rain across 21 districts of Rajasthan on Tuesday. A separate yellow alert for a heatwave was also issued for the northwestern districts starting May 15th.
The alert follows a sudden change in weather on Monday evening. Heavy rain, accompanied by hail in Sikar and Kekri (Ajmer), lashed several districts including Jaipur. Tragically, one young man died in Sikar after being electrocuted in floodwaters. Light rain and drizzle were also reported in Alwar, Tonk, Bhilwara, Jhunjhunu, and Hanumangarh.
Despite the rain in some areas, many cities experienced intense heat. Sriganganagar, Churu, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, and Barmer recorded maximum temperatures between 41°C and 43°C.
In Sikar, heavy rainfall caused flooding in Saini Nagar, leading to the electrocution of a 17-18-year-old youth, Rohit Kumawat. He was reportedly working as a laborer and lived with his mother.
While many cities experienced intense heat during the day, the evening brought cloudy skies and dust storms to several areas, including Nagaur, Jhunjhunu, and Jaipur. Rainfall of 0.5mm was recorded in Nagaur and Jhunjhunu, and 1mm in Hanumangarh.
Bikaner and Barmer recorded the highest temperatures in the state, reaching 42.5°C and 42.4°C respectively.
The Meteorological Centre Jaipur predicts the impact of the western disturbance will last until May 13th, with clear skies expected on May 14th. Temperatures in western Rajasthan are expected to reach 44°C-45°C by May 14th, with a heatwave anticipated from May 15th, prompting a yellow alert for Barmer and Sriganganagar on May 15th and 16th.
