Sun May 11 20:13:39 UTC 2025: ## Kejriwal’s Post-Election Absence Sparks Speculation

**New Delhi, May 12, 2025** – Following a resounding defeat in the February Delhi Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal’s conspicuous absence from Delhi’s political scene is raising eyebrows. Since conceding defeat and briefly congratulating the BJP on February 8th, Kejriwal has maintained a low profile, skipping press conferences and attending only two public events. His only other public appearance was at his daughter’s wedding.

While largely absent from Delhi, Kejriwal has been actively campaigning in Punjab, where the AAP is focusing its efforts ahead of the 2027 state elections. Party insiders describe this shift as a strategic move, prioritizing Punjab over a Delhi currently being managed by senior AAP leaders Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj. The next Delhi Assembly election is still some time away, they explain. Punjab’s importance is underscored by the fact that losing the state could significantly harm AAP’s national standing and Rajya Sabha representation. The party is also quietly building its presence in Goa and Gujarat, with Kejriwal expected to join the campaign trail once preparations are complete.

Kejriwal’s reduced presence in Delhi could also be linked to his pre-election pledge to prove his innocence in the “people’s court” following his arrest in connection with the now-withdrawn 2021-22 Delhi excise policy. The election results, however, delivered a clear verdict, and with the legal case ongoing, clearing his name may prove challenging.
