Mon May 12 17:00:14 UTC 2025: ## International Welcome for India-Pakistan Ceasefire

**NEW DELHI, May 12, 2025** – A ceasefire between India and Pakistan, reached on May 10 following heightened tensions, has been welcomed by several international leaders. The agreement, brokered with the assistance of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to President Trump, halted military action along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB).

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong spoke with both Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, praising the de-escalation as “critical to regional peace.” Ms. Wong noted concerns in Australia regarding the recent hostilities. Mr. Jaishankar highlighted the importance of zero-tolerance for terrorism in his conversation with Ms. Wong. Mr. Dar, meanwhile, asserted Pakistan’s restraint during the conflict and its commitment to regional peace.

Bangladesh Chief Advisor Prof. Mohammad Yunus also expressed appreciation for the ceasefire, acknowledging the US’s mediation efforts. Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli lauded the “political maturity” displayed by India and Pakistan’s leaders. Nepal’s interest stems from the large number of Nepali Gurkhas serving in the Indian military along the LoC and IB.

The ceasefire follows India’s launch of Operation Sindoor on May 7, in response to a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, including a Nepali citizen. The subsequent military escalation prompted widespread international concern.
