Sat May 10 06:16:08 UTC 2025: ## US Urges India and Pakistan to De-escalate Tensions Following Military Strikes

**New Delhi, May 10, 2025** – Amid heightened military activity between India and Pakistan, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has called on both nations to de-escalate the situation and restore direct communication. Secretary Rubio spoke separately with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday, urging them to find ways to prevent further conflict.

The calls follow India’s “Operation Sindoor,” a military strike on nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) launched earlier this week in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam massacre, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists.

In a statement, the U.S. Department of State said Secretary Rubio emphasized the need for both sides to find methods to de-escalate and re-establish direct communication to avoid miscalculations. He offered U.S. assistance in facilitating productive discussions to prevent future disputes.

Minister Jaishankar, in a social media post, affirmed India’s continued commitment to a measured and responsible approach. The U.S. State Department spokesperson reiterated the Secretary’s call for de-escalation to both parties. The situation remains tense as military activity continues.
