**ISLAMABAD/NEW DELHI, May 10, 2025** – India and Pakistan engaged in a fresh round of cross-border strikes on Saturday, escalating the conflict that began with the Pahalgam terror attack last month. While both nations claim to be committed to de-escalation if the other side reciprocates, the situation remains precarious.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, stated that his country would consider halting its attacks if India did the same. He further warned that any further Indian strikes would trigger a response. Dar also revealed that he communicated this message to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio following a conversation with New Delhi. Pakistan claims that three of its air bases were targeted by Indian missiles and drones.
However, India vehemently denies the extent of Pakistani claims, calling them “lies and propaganda.” In a press conference, Indian defense officials presented time-stamped images showing undamaged Indian air bases. Colonel Sofiya Qureshi further alleged that Pakistan targeted civilian infrastructure, including schools and hospitals, at its air bases in Kashmir. Wing Commander Vyomika Singh reiterated India’s commitment to non-escalation, contingent on reciprocal action from Pakistan, while noting the mobilization of Pakistani ground forces towards forward areas, suggesting an intent to further escalate the conflict.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with both Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, urging both sides to de-escalate and re-establish communication to prevent miscalculations. The U.S. offered to mediate productive discussions to resolve the ongoing dispute. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened a meeting of the National Command Authority to address the escalating situation. The conflict continues to raise concerns about regional stability.
