Bengaluru, India (May 8, 2025) – A large-scale civil defence exercise, “Operation Abhyaas,” was conducted in Bengaluru yesterday in response to a Ministry of Home Affairs directive. The drill, involving diverse teams including the Civil Defence, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire and Emergency Services, and police, simulated various emergency scenarios. These included water rescue operations at Ulsoor lake, high-rise building fire rescues, and building evacuations. A blackout drill was also held, instructing participants on essential safety measures.
Home Minister G. Parameshwara, observing the exercise, linked the drill to recent events in Kashmir and the current India-Pakistan situation, highlighting the need for preparedness. He referenced similar drills conducted in 1972. Participants, including NCC cadets, praised the exercise for its practical value in emergency response training.
Simultaneously, South Central Railway conducted a separate civil defence drill at Raichur Railway Station, focusing on swift and effective crisis response. The drills come amidst heightened geopolitical tensions and serve as a testament to India’s commitment to maintaining preparedness for various emergency situations.
