Thu May 08 00:20:00 UTC 2025: **Polestar Recalls Over 27,000 Polestar 2 EVs Due to Rearview Camera Issue**

DETROIT – Polestar is recalling more than 27,800 of its Polestar 2 electric vehicles in the U.S. due to a potential rearview camera malfunction. The recall affects 2021-2025 model year vehicles. According to a report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the rearview camera display may fail to show an image while in reverse, displaying a “Camera is temporarily unavailable” message instead.

The NHTSA cites a malfunctioning rearview camera as a potential crash hazard. The problem stems from a synchronization error between the Parking Assist Camera (PAC) and the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU), along with a potential issue in the IHU’s video receiving hardware. Polestar produced the affected vehicles between July 2020 and late November 2024. The company, which no longer manufactures the Polestar 2 for the U.S. market, will address the issue via a software update.

Owners are expected to receive notification letters beginning June 19th. The software update will ensure a constant high-speed signal connection between the PAC and IHU, and will include a reset function for the IHU video signal receiving hardware to address synchronization errors.
