Wed May 07 14:43:33 UTC 2025: ## India Launches ‘Operation Sindoor,’ Strikes Terror Camps in Pakistan

**New Delhi, May 7, 2025** – India launched a series of precise missile strikes targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) early this morning, in an operation codenamed “Operation Sindoor.” The strikes, the third such punitive action against Pakistani terror infrastructure in recent years, come in retaliation for a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22nd that killed 26 people.

According to a press briefing by Indian military officials, including Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Col. Sofiya Qureshi, and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, the strikes, carried out between 1:05 a.m. and 1:30 a.m., successfully destroyed the targeted facilities, which included training camps, recruitment centers, and weapons storage areas belonging to groups like Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The operation utilized loitering munitions, or “suicide drones,” for precision targeting, minimizing civilian casualties. Indian officials claim no civilian casualties resulted from the strikes themselves.

The targeted camps were located across PoK and within Pakistan, including well-known training grounds for terrorists responsible for numerous attacks in India. Among the sites hit were the JeM headquarters in Bahawalpur and the LeT base in Muridke, both known for their roles in training terrorists involved in past attacks.

Following the strikes, Pakistan responded with shelling and firing along the Line of Control (LoC), resulting in at least 10 civilian deaths and over 30 injuries on the Pakistani side. Pakistan’s Army spokesman, Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, vowed retaliation, stating that Pakistan would respond “at a time and place of its own choosing.” Pakistan’s foreign ministry invoked Article 51 of the UN Charter, reserving the right to respond.

India maintains that its response was measured and targeted solely at terrorist infrastructure, emphasizing its commitment to avoiding civilian harm. However, the escalation of tensions along the LoC raises concerns about further conflict between the two nuclear-armed nations. The international community is watching closely as the situation unfolds.
