**Kozhikode, May 5, 2025** – Two cousins drowned in a check dam on the Valad river near Mananthavady in Wayanad district on Monday evening. Ajin Binu, 15, and Christy Bineesh, 13, were among a group of five children who entered the dam for a swim around 5 p.m. When Ajin and Christy began to drown, the other children raised the alarm and alerted nearby residents. Despite being rushed to the Government Medical College in Mananthavady, both children succumbed to their injuries. Ajin had recently completed Class X, while Christy was a Class VIII student. The incident highlights the dangers of unsupervised swimming in such areas.
