**Chennai, May 5, 2025** – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will preside over the valedictory ceremony of “Tamil Week” on Monday, celebrating the birth anniversary of poet Pavendhar Bharathidasan. The event at Kalaivanar Arangam will include awarding prizes for various competitions and a significant announcement: the nationalization of the literary works of five prominent Tamil scholars. Royalties from these works will be given to their families. The government’s action aims to make these literary treasures accessible to a wider audience.
The “Tamil Week” celebrations, ongoing since April 29th, have included literary events across the state. As the DMK government nears its fifth anniversary, an official release highlighted its achievements over the past four years, specifically mentioning the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme and Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam healthcare initiative as receiving national and international recognition, including from the United Nations.
The release also contrasted the state government’s successes with what it described as the insufficient support from the Union government during natural disasters, citing the government’s refusal to allocate funds. Despite this, the release noted that the Tamil Nadu government has received numerous awards from the Centre in areas such as police work, sports, welfare, water management, and tourism. These awards include a first prize for excellence awarded to Subramaniya Siva Cooperative Sugar Mills Ltd. and an award for excellence in cooperative banks, both presented by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The release also cited the Muthupettai police station’s award as the best police station in 2024.
