Mon May 05 02:58:06 UTC 2025: **Hackers Breach TeleMessage, a Signal-like App Used by Former US National Security Advisor**

**Washington, D.C. – May 5, 2025** – A security breach of TeleMessage, a Signal-like messaging application reportedly used by former US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, has been revealed by 404 Media. The hackers reportedly exploited a vulnerability in TeleMessage’s backend infrastructure, gaining access to some user messages. While the hackers claim to not have intercepted messages from Waltz or other cabinet officials, the breach raises serious concerns about the security of communications at the highest levels of the US government.

Waltz, who was dismissed from his position last week following a separate scandal involving an accidentally public group chat, was photographed using TeleMessage during a cabinet meeting. The revelation that he used this application, which, unlike end-to-end encrypted Signal, is designed to capture decrypted messages for storage and compliance purposes, amplifies security concerns. 404 Media verified some of the hacker-provided evidence.

TeleMessage, owned by Smarsh, is currently being rebranded as Capture Mobile. A Signal spokesperson previously stated that the company cannot guarantee the security of unofficial Signal versions. Neither TeleMessage, Smarsh, Waltz, nor the White House have yet commented on the reported breach. The incident underscores potential vulnerabilities in messaging apps designed for both secure communication and data retention.
