**Vatican City, May 5, 2025** – One of Pope Francis’s popemobiles, used during his 2014 Holy Land visit, is being converted into a mobile health clinic for children in the Gaza Strip. This initiative, fulfilling a final wish of the late pontiff, was entrusted to Caritas Jerusalem before his death last month. The clinic will provide much-needed medical services in the war-torn region, where the healthcare system has largely collapsed following the October 2023 Israeli invasion.
The mobile unit, supported by Caritas Sweden, will be equipped with diagnostic tools, vaccines, and emergency supplies. Once humanitarian access is restored, it will serve communities lacking access to healthcare facilities. Peter Brune, Secretary General of Caritas Sweden, emphasized the symbolic importance of the project, stating it sends a message that the world hasn’t forgotten the children of Gaza. The Vatican notes Pope Francis maintained close contact with the Holy Family Church in Gaza throughout much of the conflict. A new pope will be elected in a conclave beginning May 7th.
