**Vatican City, May 5, 2025** – One of Pope Francis’s popemobiles, used during his 2014 Holy Land visit, is being converted into a mobile health clinic for children in the Gaza Strip. The initiative, fulfilling a final wish of the late pontiff, will provide much-needed medical care in the region where healthcare services have been severely impacted by recent conflict.
The Vatican announced that the vehicle is being equipped with diagnostic tools, emergency medical equipment, and supplies such as vaccines and suture kits. Caritas Jerusalem, a Catholic aid organization, is overseeing the project with support from Caritas Sweden. The mobile clinic will serve communities lacking access to healthcare once humanitarian access to Gaza is secured.
Peter Brune, Secretary General of Caritas Sweden, emphasized the symbolic importance of the project, stating that it sends a message that the world has not forgotten the children of Gaza. The project underscores the Vatican’s ongoing commitment to the region, particularly its small Christian community, with Pope Francis maintaining near-daily contact with the Holy Family Church in Gaza during the recent conflict. A new pope will be elected starting May 7th.
