Mon May 05 10:34:05 UTC 2025: ## Gaza Student’s Resilience Amidst Devastation: “I Deserve to Live”

**Gaza City, Palestine –** A young Gazan woman, whose identity is being withheld for safety reasons, has shared a harrowing account of survival and loss following the recent escalation of conflict in Gaza. Her story, recounted in a powerful personal essay, details the destruction of her home, the deaths of numerous loved ones, and her own severe injuries sustained during repeated attacks.

The student, aspiring to be a writer, described a life interrupted. Her initial fear was the instability affecting her education. This fear was tragically surpassed by the reality of war. She witnessed the bombing of her home, losing all her possessions and her father’s workshop. The death of her close friend, Rama, and the subsequent massacre of her father’s extended family compounded her grief.

A direct missile strike on her family’s temporary housing left her with severe head, hand, leg, and back injuries. Despite enduring excruciating pain, multiple surgeries, and the constant struggle for basic necessities such as food and clean water in the overcrowded displacement camps, she persevered.

“I felt everything was screaming that I could not go on,” she wrote, “Yet, in the darkness of despair, I continued to live, day after day.” Driven by an unwavering determination, she returned to her studies at the Islamic University, attending online lectures despite limited access to electricity and the internet. Her mother assisted her in completing assignments, given her injuries.

Even now, living in a tent, facing famine and the constant threat of violence, the student refuses to be silenced. “I have made the decision to stay alive, to love, to dream, to speak,” she declared. Her story is a testament to the resilience of the Gazan people and a powerful plea for peace and an end to the suffering.
