**Mysuru, May 5, 2025** – Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has announced that the ₹540-crore Cauvery drinking water project, aimed at alleviating water shortages in Ramanagar, Kanakapura, Channapatna, and Magadi taluks, will be completed by December 2025.

During a Monday inspection of the project near Sattegala in Mandya district, Mr. Shivakumar confirmed the project’s progress, highlighting the construction of a crucial 12.5-km tunnel and a 13.35-km pipeline. He performed a ceremonial groundbreaking to mark the commencement of a new phase. The project will supply 3.30 tmcft of water annually, benefiting an estimated 10.82 lakh people and 9.03 lakh livestock.

Addressing concerns about land acquisition, Mr. Shivakumar assured that only necessary land would be acquired, with fair compensation provided to farmers. He emphasized the project’s dual benefit of addressing water shortages and improving groundwater levels.

Officials reported significant progress: 11.33 km of tunnel work is complete, with concrete and steel lining finished for 4.15 km. 5.5 km of the pipeline is also laid. Upon completion, 220 cusecs of Cauvery water will flow for 180 days annually from Sattegala to the Iggalur Barrage, then be lifted to other reservoirs, creating an integrated water supply network. The Deputy Chief Minister reviewed the project’s progress with officials and engineers from the implementing Hyderabad-based firm, addressing concerns about any delays. Several MLAs and MLCs were present at the inspection.
