Mon May 05 17:10:00 UTC 2025: ## PSL Loses Another Star Player to IPL: Owen’s Transfer Creates Ripples

**LAHORE, PAKISTAN – May 5, 2025** – The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is facing a talent drain, with the departure of another key player to the Indian Premier League (IPL). Mitchell Owen, a high-scoring all-rounder currently playing for Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL, has been signed by the Punjab Kings as a replacement for the injured Glenn Maxwell.

Owen, who boasts a remarkable T20 strike rate of 185, has impressed with his explosive batting and useful medium-pace bowling. His transfer, however, highlights the growing disparity in financial power between the two leagues. The deal is reportedly worth Rs 3 crore.

Owen’s availability to the Punjab Kings will depend on Peshawar Zalmi’s performance in the ongoing PSL. If Zalmi reach the playoffs, Owen will only be available for the IPL playoffs, should Punjab qualify. If Zalmi fail to make the playoffs, Owen could feature in Punjab’s final two league games and potentially the IPL playoffs.

This is the second significant transfer from the PSL to the IPL this season. Earlier, Corbin Bosch also left Peshawar Zalmi to join the Mumbai Indians, resulting in a one-year PSL suspension. This highlights a concerning trend for the PSL, which is struggling to compete with the IPL’s significantly larger financial resources. The league’s ability to retain its top talent is increasingly under pressure.
