**Mangaluru, May 4, 2025** – Over 8,700 students in Dakshina Kannada district sat for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) on Sunday, with a participation rate of over 97%. The exam, held across 16 government and aided institutions in Mangaluru, saw only 289 absences out of nearly 9,065 registered students.

The three-hour offline exam, utilizing OMR sheets, was met with varied responses. While a lecturer from a private PU college reported students finding the physics section particularly challenging, with lengthy answers in the biology section, the chemistry portion was deemed easier. Conversely, Narendra Nayak, chairman of the Expert Group of Institutions, praised the exam, stating it was the best in three years, describing the balance of challenging and lengthy questions as ideal for a screening test. He believes students who prepared diligently will excel. Each correct answer was worth four marks, with one mark deducted for incorrect answers.
