**Kothagudem, Telangana:** Seven residents of Regalla thanda in Julurpad mandal, Kothagudem district, staged a protest on Tuesday by climbing a water tower. The protestors, four women and three men, claimed they were unfairly denied Indiramma houses, a government housing scheme for the poor. They allege that individuals with agricultural land received houses while they, homeless families, were overlooked.
Approximately 60 families in the hamlet lack adequate housing. Despite appealing to local officials, their pleas for housing were ignored, prompting the desperate protest. The protestors chanted slogans demanding the immediate sanction of Indiramma houses.
Police intervened, and after persuasion, the residents came down from the water tower. This incident highlights ongoing concerns across the erstwhile Khammam district regarding alleged irregularities in the Indiramma housing scheme, with numerous complaints of ineligible beneficiaries receiving houses.
