**Madurai, India (May 2, 2025)** – A Village Administrative Officer (VAO) in Virathanur, Tamil Nadu, India, has been arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe. A. Indira, the VAO, was caught red-handed receiving ₹18,000 (approximately $218 USD) from G. Murugeshwari. The bribe was reportedly demanded in exchange for processing Murugeshwari’s application for a legal heir certificate.

The arrest was made following a complaint filed by Murugeshwari. A team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, led by Additional Superintendent of Police M. Sathyaseelan and Inspector of Police K. Kumaraguru, set a trap and apprehended Indira while she accepted the money near a theatre in Anna Nagar. The investigation is ongoing.
