Thu May 01 11:04:08 UTC 2025: **Puducherry’s New ₹34 Crore Bus Terminal Opens Friday**

PUDUCHERRY, May 1, 2025 – Puducherry’s newly reconstructed Rajiv Gandhi Bus Terminus, built at a cost of ₹34 crore under the Smart Cities Mission, is set to open on Friday. The facility, rebuilt by NBCC (India) Limited, boasts 31 stalls, ample parking for 46 buses, and improved passenger amenities. Bus operations will shift from the temporary AFT ground location to the new terminus.

The government has ambitious plans for the four-acre site, including a public-private partnership to develop a commercial complex, convention hall, multiplex, and multi-level parking. This expansion aims to emulate the successful Kilambakkam bus terminal in Chennai. A private investor will be responsible for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance, sharing revenue with the municipality.

Concerns have been raised regarding the upkeep of the new facility, following past issues with maintenance at the old bus stand. Local residents have urged increased police presence to prevent misuse of the premises.
