**Colombo, Sri Lanka** – India’s women’s cricket team started their Sri Lanka Women’s Tri-Nation Series campaign with a convincing 9-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the opening match played at the R. Premadasa Stadium on April 27th. Rain affected the match, shortening Sri Lanka’s innings to 38.1 overs, where they managed a total of 147 runs. India chased down the target comfortably in 29.1 overs, losing only one wicket in the process.
Pratika Rawal anchored the chase with an unbeaten 50 off 62 balls, while Smriti Mandhana contributed a quick-fire 43 off 46 balls. Harleen Deol provided further stability, remaining unbeaten on 48 runs off 71 balls.
The match also marked a significant personal milestone for Smriti Mandhana. She became only the fifth woman in the history of women’s international white-ball cricket to surpass 8,000 runs, and the second Indian woman to achieve this feat. Mandhana now boasts 8,013 runs from 246 white-ball internationals. She trails only Suzie Bates (10,612 runs), Mithali Raj (10,169 runs), Stephanie Taylor (9,231 runs), and Sarah Edwards (8,597 runs) on the all-time list.
India will be aiming to continue their winning momentum throughout the tournament, which also features South Africa and concludes on March 11th. The tournament is being played in Sri Lanka.
