Tue Apr 29 06:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 Ends in Chaos; Showrunner Teases Season 2
**New York City is under martial law.** Wilson Fisk, now Mayor of New York, has consolidated his power, imprisoning enemies and establishing a corrupt police force. Daredevil (Charlie Cox) is left reeling, plotting a counteroffensive by assembling an army to reclaim the city. The season finale left audiences on a cliffhanger, with Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal), the Punisher, escaping imprisonment after a brutal battle.
In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Dario Scardapane discussed the finale and hinted at the future. The post-credits scene showing the Punisher’s escape was not a direct response to Bernthal’s upcoming Punisher standalone special for Disney+, but rather a deliberate move to keep the character active in the MCU. While Scardapane remained tight-lipped, he acknowledged the Punisher’s likely involvement in *Daredevil: Born Again* season 2, confirming ongoing communication with Bernthal regarding the special.
Scardapane confirmed that iconic characters like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand are being considered for season 2, emphasizing the need for their inclusion to organically serve the narrative of a city-wide rebellion against Fisk’s regime. He did however dispel rumors that a character named “Luke” seen in the finale was Luke Cage.
The showrunner also addressed the finale’s memorable fight sequence between Daredevil and the Punisher, highlighting the contrast in their fighting styles and ideologies. He explained that the sequence, initially conceived differently, evolved into a visceral representation of their philosophical differences regarding lethal force and redemption.
The creative overhaul of the season, following the initial filming of six episodes, led to significant changes in the final episodes, particularly the shocking death of Commissioner Gallo. Scardapane detailed the decision to give Gallo a brutal end as a consequence of his disrespectful treatment of Fisk. He also emphasized Marvel’s collaborative and supportive approach to the show’s more violent aspects.
Finally, Scardapane confirmed the return of Karen Page and Foggy Nelson in season 2, highlighting Karen’s crucial role in Matt Murdock’s life and promising a significant, yet undisclosed, role for Foggy. He also teased the presence of several visual and thematic Easter eggs in season 1 that will pay off significantly in season 2.
