**Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu – April 25, 2025** – An Inspector of Police and a Head Constable from the Vriddhachalam All Women Police Station in Cuddalore district have been suspended for allegedly accepting bribes. The officers, identified as Inspector Jayalakshmi and Head Constable Sivasakthi, are accused of demanding and receiving money from the parents of three youths who were detained for questioning in connection with a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the youths were not involved in the sexual assault of a minor girl. Despite this, the officers allegedly took bribes from the parents. A subsequent inquiry revealed a pattern of bribery, with the officers allegedly taking money regularly from petitioners.
Following recommendations from Cuddalore Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Villupuram Range) Disha Mittal ordered the immediate suspension of both officers. The incident highlights concerns about corruption within the Tamil Nadu police force.
