**Chennai, April 25, 2025** – The University of Madras announced a free education scheme for the 2025-26 academic year, offering tuition-free education in aided and self-financing colleges affiliated with the university. The initiative prioritizes students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, including orphans, children of widows, first-generation graduates, and transgender individuals.
Eligibility requires a family annual income not exceeding ₹3 lakh. Applications, along with necessary documents, must be submitted online at http://www.unom.ac.in within 15 days of the Class 12 results publication. Only complete online applications with all scanned documents will be accepted, the university registrar stated.
