Tue Apr 22 19:59:09 UTC 2025: ## Delhi BJP Government Accused of Halting Widows’ and Women’s Pensions

**New Delhi, April 23, 2025** – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has leveled accusations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi, claiming that monthly pensions for widows and women in distress have been withheld. The Delhi government’s ₹2,500 monthly pension program supports women lacking sufficient means of subsistence, including those divorced, abandoned, or deserted.

According to a senior government official, a verification process involving 3.5 lakh beneficiaries is underway, resulting in over 20,000 women being deemed ineligible. This verification, the official stated, is the reason for the delay in disbursing March’s pensions, which were due by April 15th.

AAP Delhi chief Saurabh Bharadwaj criticized the BJP, alleging that long-term beneficiaries are being unfairly targeted and that a significant number of women are now without their pensions. The BJP has yet to respond to these allegations.
