SAGAR, Madhya Pradesh – Tensions flared in Sanodha village, Sagar district, on Saturday, April 19th, 2025, leading to violence and property damage after a woman was allegedly abducted. Police responded by deploying security personnel, but a mob engaged in arson and stone-throwing before officers could fully control the situation.
The incident stemmed from the reported elopement of a man and a woman from different communities on Friday, April 18th. The woman’s family filed a missing person report, alleging abduction. Subsequently, a mob gathered in the village, targeting shops and pelting stones at police. Several shops were set ablaze before fire crews extinguished the flames.
Superintendent of Police Vikas Shahwal stated that a case is being prepared against 200-250 unidentified individuals for arson and vandalism. Authorities plan to use CCTV and mobile phone footage to identify the perpetrators. The SP confirmed that the couple has been located in Gwalior and is being returned to Sagar for questioning.
BJP MLA Pradeep Lariya, present at the scene, claimed the woman was abducted by a man with a “criminal mindset,” alleging “love jihad” and criticizing police for inaction. He further accused individuals of harassing schoolgirls. However, Sagar Collector Sandeep G. R. assured the public that the situation is under control and peace has been restored with continued police presence. The investigation is ongoing.
