**Mangaluru, April 18, 2025** – The Jayashreekrishna Parisara Premi Samithi will hold a protest in Mangaluru during the last week of May to demand action against the pollution of the Nethravati River, a vital source of drinking water for Mangaluru, Bantwal, Ullal, and Mulki.
Samithi founder president Tonse Jayakrishna A. Shetty announced the protest at a press conference in Udupi on Friday. He stated that the group will also meet with Karnataka’s Minister for Environment and Forest, Eshwar Khandre, to urge immediate action to prevent further pollution in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Shetty highlighted the impact of the Padubidri thermal power plant in Udupi, advocating for a 24/7 power supply for both districts in addition to the rest of the state.
The Samithi has already presented its demands to the Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly U.T. Khader. The group is seeking both environmental protection and reliable power for the region.
