**Mumbai, India –** In a surprising move, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South African batting prodigy Dewald Brevis as a replacement for injured pacer Gurjapneet Singh for the remainder of IPL 2025. The 21-year-old, known for his explosive batting style and comparisons to AB de Villiers, will bolster CSK’s struggling batting lineup.
Brevis, who had a base price of INR 75 Lakh at the IPL auction, was signed for a significantly higher fee of INR 2.2 Crore. Despite playing only a handful of matches for South Africa, Brevis boasts an impressive T20 record with 81 matches played and a strike rate nearing 145. He enters the IPL on the back of strong performances in domestic cricket and the SA20, where he boasted the highest strike rate (184.17) among the top ten run-scorers.
The five-time champions currently sit at the bottom of the IPL table with only two wins. Brevis’s arrival is seen as a significant coup for CSK, adding much-needed firepower to their batting order. He joins Ayush Mhatre, another replacement signing for CSK this season. Brevis will face his former team, Mumbai Indians, in CSK’s next match on April 20th at the Wankhede Stadium.
