Thu Apr 17 06:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Michigan Battling Late-Winter Storm: Over 8 Inches of Snow Reported

**MARQUETTE, MI – April 15, 2024** – A powerful late-winter storm is pummeling Michigan’s Upper and northern Lower Peninsulas, dumping over eight inches of snow in some areas and prompting warnings across the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) reports that the storm, characterized by heavy snow, ice, and high winds, will continue to impact the state until Wednesday morning.

Gale warnings are in effect for Lakes Superior, Michigan, Huron, and parts of Lake Erie today. The eastern Upper Peninsula is under a winter weather advisory, with wind advisories issued for parts of the Keweenaw Peninsula, Marquette area, and the southern UP shoreline. A hazardous weather outlook is in place for the remainder of the UP and portions of the Lower Peninsula, including the area from Traverse City to Cadillac and Houghton Lake to Mackinac City, which are also under a winter weather advisory.

The western Upper Peninsula has been hardest hit, with some areas in the Keweenaw Peninsula reporting between two and eight inches of snowfall. While snow is expected to continue through today, it is forecast to taper off by Tuesday.

Strong northwesterly winds, with gusts potentially reaching 45 mph along the Lake Superior shoreline, are expected to persist even as the snow subsides. Conditions are expected to improve tonight as high pressure builds. The NWS urges residents to remain vigilant and monitor weather updates.
