**CHENNAI, April 17, 2025** – The City Civil Court in Chennai has dismissed a five-year-old lawsuit filed by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami against T.T.V. Dhinakaran. The suit sought to prevent Dhinakaran from using the AIADMK’s name, flag, and the image of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.
Palaniswami’s counsel withdrew the petition on Wednesday, leading to the dismissal. The case was initially filed in 2019 after Dhinakaran launched the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), a party with a similar flag and imagery to the AIADMK. The suit also demanded ₹25 lakh in compensation.
The withdrawal is seen as politically significant, given the recent alliance between the AIADMK and the BJP-led NDA. The court’s decision effectively allows Dhinakaran to continue using the previously contested elements.
