Wed Apr 16 19:57:07 UTC 2025: ## Delhi to Get South Asia’s Largest Battery Energy Storage System
**New Delhi, April 17, 2025** – Delhi is set to become home to South Asia’s largest utility-scale standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood announced Wednesday. The system, located in Kilokri, South Delhi, is the first of its kind in India to receive commercial approval.
The BESS is designed to improve grid stability, lower peak-hour electricity demand, and facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources. This initiative is expected to significantly boost Delhi’s green energy efforts and directly benefit approximately 100,000 residents in the surrounding areas. Minister Sood hailed the project as a historic milestone for Delhi and India’s power sector. The system will soon be publicly inaugurated by BSES.
