**Hyderabad, April 15, 2025** – A 33-year-old Hyderabad homemaker fell victim to a sophisticated online job scam, losing over ₹1.35 lakh. The scam, which involved posting fake hotel reviews on Google Maps, lured the woman with promises of high earnings for a work-from-home opportunity.

The victim received a WhatsApp message claiming to be from the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), offering payments ranging from ₹2,000 to ₹8,000 per day for posting five-star hotel reviews. After receiving a small initial payment of ₹203, she was convinced to invest further, making deposits for “prepayment tasks” to unlock higher commissions.

The scammers added her to a WhatsApp group showcasing inflated earnings, further reinforcing the legitimacy of the scheme. The woman, believing the job was genuine, depleted her savings and borrowed additional funds from family members before realizing she had been scammed.

The cybercrimes wing of the Hyderabad police have registered a case and launched an investigation following the victim’s complaint. This incident serves as a stark warning against online job scams promising unrealistic returns and highlights the importance of verifying the authenticity of such opportunities before participating.
