Tue Apr 15 15:26:59 UTC 2025: ## Delhi High Court Denies Bail to Separatist Leader in Terror Funding Case

**New Delhi, April 15, 2025** – The Delhi High Court has rejected the bail application of Nayeem Ahmad Khan, a Hurriyat Conference leader arrested in 2017 on charges of terror funding linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba leader Hafiz Saeed. The court ruled that the length of his pre-trial detention, while a consideration, does not outweigh the gravity of the charges, which involve alleged attempts to destabilize India.

Khan, held under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), argued that the trial was unlikely to conclude soon and that his prolonged incarceration violated his fundamental right to liberty. However, the court cited the seriousness of the accusations, noting the NIA’s claim that Khan and others conspired to incite violence and create unrest in Kashmir Valley to further a secessionist agenda.

The court found sufficient evidence, including witness statements and documentary proof, to suggest the accusations against Khan are credible. It concluded that granting bail would jeopardize public safety and compromise the ongoing trial. The court emphasized that cases involving national security and potential for widespread terror require a stricter approach to bail applications. Khan remains in judicial custody.
