Mon Apr 14 23:00:00 UTC 2025: **NHL Playoff Picture Nears Completion; Top Seeds Emerge**
NEW YORK, NY – With just days remaining in the NHL regular season, the playoff picture is rapidly solidifying. While the majority of playoff berths are secured, three spots remain highly contested. Seeding is also far from decided, leaving many first-round matchups uncertain.
In the Eastern Conference, the Washington Capitals have clinched the top seed, likely facing the Montreal Canadiens in the first round. However, the Columbus Blue Jackets have a slim chance to overtake the Canadiens for that position. The Metropolitan Division is largely settled, with the Carolina Hurricanes and New Jersey Devils also locking in their playoff places.
The Western Conference presents a tighter race. While the Winnipeg Jets secured the Presidents’ Trophy, four teams are battling for the two remaining wild-card spots: the Minnesota Wild, St. Louis Blues, and Calgary Flames. The Flames remain competitive after a recent win against San Jose.
CBS Sports provides a daily updated playoff race tracker to follow the shifting standings. The Stanley Cup Playoffs commence on April 19th. For complete standings and potential matchups, visit the CBS Sports NHL playoff tracker.
