Mon Apr 14 12:24:15 UTC 2025: ## BBMP Exceeds Property Tax Collection Target by ₹1,000 Crore

**Bengaluru, April 14, 2025** – The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has announced a significant increase in property tax collection for the financial year 2024-25, exceeding its target by a substantial margin. The BBMP collected ₹4,930 crore, representing a ₹1,000 crore jump compared to the previous year’s ₹3,918 crore. This amounts to a 94.62% achievement against the year’s target of ₹5,210.47 crore.

Several zones surpassed their individual targets. Yelahanka zone led the way with a 104.36% collection rate (₹464.66 crore), followed by Mahadevapura, which collected the highest amount overall at ₹1,310.58 crore (100.12% of its target). Other zones also performed well, though some fell slightly short of their targets.

BBMP officials attribute this success to several initiatives, including the One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme launched in February 2024. The scheme offered significant relief to defaulters by waiving compounding interest on arrears and reducing penalties by 50%. Further contributing factors cited include systematic IT-based follow-up on arrears, clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for recovery, and door-to-door follow-up.

Special Commissioner (Revenue), Munish Moudgil, highlighted that this achievement was accomplished without raising property tax rates, which remain unchanged since 2016. He expressed confidence that the BBMP will surpass ₹6,000 crore in collections in the upcoming financial year (2025-26). The auctioning of properties belonging to long-term defaulters after the OTS scheme’s expiry in November 2024 also played a significant role in boosting collections, officials added.
