Sun Apr 13 10:20:58 UTC 2025: ## UK Airports to Go Digital: End of Boarding Passes in Sight

**London, UK** – A major overhaul of air travel is on the horizon for UK airports. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is set to introduce a “digital travel credential” within the next two to three years, eliminating the need for traditional boarding passes and streamlining the airport experience.

This new system will allow passengers to store their passport information on their smartphones. Upon arrival at the airport, facial recognition technology will verify their identity, eliminating the need for online or in-person check-in. A digital journey pass containing all trip details will be accessed via the passenger’s phone.

While passengers with checked baggage will still need to use bag drop services, those with only hand luggage will have their bags scanned at pre-security gates. Airlines will be notified of a passenger’s arrival and flight intention via the digital system.

This initiative promises to significantly reduce queue times and expedite the airport check-in process, making air travel quicker and more convenient for millions of passengers.
