**Kolkata, April 13, 2025** – Twelve more arrests were made Sunday, bringing the total to 150, in connection with violent protests over the Waqf (Amendment) Act in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district. The protests, which began Friday, resulted in three deaths and injuries to at least 18 police officers.

The violence involved arson, stone-throwing, and road blockades. Two of the fatalities, Harogobindo Das and his son Chandan Das, were found stabbed to death at their home in Jafrabad. A third victim, 21-year-old Ijaz Momin, died from gunshot wounds sustained during clashes.

Police reported that the situation is currently calm, with security forces maintaining a strong presence and conducting raids. Prohibitory orders and an internet suspension remain in effect in affected areas, including Suti, Dhulian, Samserganj, and Jangipur. The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are anticipated. West Bengal’s Director General of Police, Rajeev Kumar, visited the area Saturday night to assess the situation.
