**NEW DELHI –** India observed Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14th, commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution. The national holiday honored the jurist, economist, and social reformer, widely regarded as the “Father of the Indian Constitution.”

Born in 1891 in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, Ambedkar dedicated his life to fighting for the rights of Dalits (formerly known as “untouchables”), facing and overcoming significant societal discrimination. His pivotal role in the 1932 Poona Pact, securing Dalit representation in legislatures, further cemented his legacy. As chairman of the Drafting Committee, he oversaw the creation of India’s Constitution.

Celebrations across the country included processions, seminars, and cultural events, paying tribute to Ambedkar’s enduring contributions and inspirational quotes that continue to resonate decades later. Several Indian states declared the day a public holiday.
