**New Delhi, India** – Tahawwur Hussain Rana, the Pakistani-Canadian national extradited from the United States in connection with the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, began his interrogation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday. Initial reports indicate Rana, who has been described as largely uncooperative, has revealed key details about his involvement and connections to high-profile figures within Pakistan’s intelligence and terrorist organizations.
During his first day of questioning in a high-security NIA facility, Rana confirmed his origins in Chichawatni, Pakistan, and his past association with David Coleman Headley, another key figure in the Mumbai attacks. He detailed his education at Cadet College Hasanabdal, where he met Headley, and his subsequent emigration to Canada in 1997, where he established an immigration consultancy and a halal meat business, both allegedly fronts for terrorist activities.
Rana’s disclosures further revealed his connections to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). He reportedly maintained close ties with Sajid Mir, a designated global terrorist and key handler during the 26/11 attacks, and even visited terror camps while wearing Pakistani military fatigues. The interrogation also uncovered meetings with Major Iqbal, an alleged ISI officer accused of financing and directing Headley’s reconnaissance missions.
The NIA investigation is also exploring Rana’s alleged links to Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI) and his meetings with an unidentified individual in Dubai prior to the attacks, who is suspected to have prior knowledge of the plot.
The interrogation is being led by a 12-officer team under the supervision of DIG Jaya Roy and IG Ashish Batra, both experienced NIA officials who accompanied Rana on his extradition flight from the US. The interrogation is being meticulously documented and recorded within a secure, heavily monitored chamber. The investigation promises to shed further light on the planning and execution of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and expose deeper links between Pakistani intelligence agencies and terrorist groups.
