Fri Apr 11 15:10:01 UTC 2025: ## Flower Prices Soar at Thovalai Market Ahead of Panguni Uthiram Festival
**Nagercoil, April 11, 2025** – Flower prices have skyrocketed at the Thovalai wholesale flower market in Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu, in anticipation of the Panguni Uthiram festival. The market, one of the largest in southern Tamil Nadu, has seen a significant increase in customers since Thursday.
The festival, widely celebrated in Sastha temples and those dedicated to family deities, has driven demand for flowers. Prices on Friday reflected this surge: Jasmine reached ₹750 per kilogram, pichipoo ₹2,500 per kilogram, and Oleander prices ranged from ₹250 (pink) to ₹650 (red and white). Milky white chrysanthemum sold for ₹650 per kilogram.
Wholesale dealer Subramanian reported brisk business and high demand for both garlands and loose flowers. He noted a shortage of Paneer Roses and Magnolia due to recent summer rain, but overall, the market is thriving. Customers are arriving from neighboring districts and even Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Subramanian anticipates strong sales continuing until the Tamil New Year, followed by the Vishu festival in Kerala.
