**Udupi, Karnataka – April 11, 2025** – Members of the Udupi District Mahila Congress staged a protest on Friday against the rising domestic LPG prices. Led by Karnataka State Mahila Congress general secretary Sowmya Reddy, the demonstration highlighted the significant increase in LPG costs, from ₹400 under the UPA government to ₹1000 under the current NDA administration.
Reddy criticized the central government for the price hike, particularly the overnight increase coinciding with a ₹2 central excise hike on petrol and diesel. She argued that the BJP’s “Janakrosha Yatre” (people’s anger march) against the Karnataka Congress government lacked moral standing given the current economic hardships faced by citizens due to rising prices.
Reddy further contrasted the Congress’s tenure at the center with the current government’s, claiming that essential commodities were more affordable under the UPA. She accused the BJP of dividing the population along religious and caste lines, while the Congress aimed to unite them. The protest was attended by former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake and other Congress leaders. The demonstration underscored the growing public discontent over rising living costs in the region.
